Ms. Mary Frances Whitehead, 83, of 1312 Shelton Court, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 17 at her residence. She was born on Aug. 23, 1927, to the late Landon Roberts and Gladys Roberts in Nansemond County, Va.

She attended Andrew J. Brown and Booker T. Washington and was the widow of the late Willie Maynard Whitehead.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis Roberts.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her beautiful memory, her children, Linnie Parker, Joseph Roberts, Timothy Whitehead, Gladys Manley, Rendy Scales, Beverly Green, Helen Nelson (stepdaughter), Willie Lee Whitehead (stepson); 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janis Roberts, and many other family members and friends.
Ms. Whitehead will be on view at the funeral home from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. A funeral service will take place in the Rev. Melvin R. Boone Chapel of the funeral home, 2 p.m., Friday, June 24. She will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
