Aubrey Payne Barnes, 64, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Aug. 2, 2011, in Suffolk. He was the husband of Donna C. Barnes and the son of the late Nellie and William Crowder Barnes. He was a wonderful husband, dad, uncle, brother, and friend and had a passion for golf and fishing, but more importantly, had a passion for his children and grandchildren.

Aubrey was a member of First Baptist Church in Suffolk. His command was Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic in Norfolk. He was a senior staff appraiser and served in the Army Reserves. He had the opportunity to travel extensively while working and traveled to places like Iceland, Saudi Arabia and Haiti. He also had the opportunity to assist in finding housing for the military personnel during Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his daughters, Laurie L. Barnes, of Franklin, Donna Maria Seabolt and husband, Doug, of Suffolk, Melissa Ann Boyce and husband, Travis, of Suffolk; grandchildren, Melissann and Forrest Boyce; sister, Barbara Nelms, of Washington, N.C.; brother, William C. “Bill” Barnes Jr. and wife, Patsy, of Suffolk; mother and father-in-law, Ellen and David D. Francis; sisters-in-law, Jeanie Jones, Judith Rhodes and husband, Durwood, Ann Bauman and husband, Col. Mitchel Bauman, Mary Anderson and husband, Marshall; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., by the Rev. Dr. Merle Correll.
