John Lee Myrick, 62, of 1010 Blythewood Lane, Suffolk, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Alice Irene Myrick of Suffolk and the late Moses Leon Corbett. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen A. Myrick; a sister, Lessie Mae Myrick; and a brother, Moses Myrick.

He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding as a pipefitter for 44 years. He was a 1968 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He was a member of Rising St. James PHC, where he was the Superintendent of Sunday School, a Deacon, Usher, Trustee, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and in the Male Chorus. He was a member of the Lake Kennedy Civic League.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carolyn A. Myrick; one daughter, Tameka L. Banks of Suffolk; one son Milton J. Myrick (Tanya) of Marietta, Pa.; two brothers, William Myrick and Jeffery Myrick (Sandra) both of Suffolk; a daughter-in-law, Catina Myrick; grandchildren, Dante T. Myrick, Tamine L. Banks, Shanice A. Myrick and Charles O. Smith; one son-in-law, Tamine L. Banks, Sr.; one god-sister, Bernadette Branch of Suffolk; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living, officiated by Bishop Dwight Whitfield and Overseer Viola Parker, pastor. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.

A wake will be held Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Rising St. James PHC from 6 to 8 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
