Marvin Gilbert Cowing

Marvin Gilbert “Gil” Cowing, 61, of Suffolk, passed away on Oct. 14, 2011. A native of Nansemond County, Va., he was the son of the late Marvin Gussie Cowing and Lucille Farrell. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Christopher. Gil served his country in the Army Reserve and was assistant manager of the Dollar Tree in Smithfield. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Franklin Ward. Gil studied Mechanical Engineering at Utah State University and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Anne Cowing; two stepdaughters and stepson-in-law, Esther and Frankie Winslow and Jacqueline Doyle; one stepson, Timothy Truitt; five grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Theresa Williams, Lynne and Mark Jakobowski and Dawn and Lloyd Crocker; two nieces, Alexandra Jakobowski and Hannah Crocker, and two nephews, Trent Savage and Kenley Savage.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, at 2 p.m. with Bishop James P. Council III officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation.
