Mr. John L. Johnson Jr., of 2357 Pruden Blvd., departed this earthly life on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 at his residence.

He was a native of Suffolk and a graduate of Suffolk High School and worked at Jefferson Labs as a receiver. He was predeceased by his parents, John L. and Eloise Love Johnson Sr.
His survivors include his sons, Cyprian Johnson (Laytoya), of New Bern, N.C., and Tyrone Jenkins, of Suffolk; sisters, Thomasina Tillery and Gloria Dolsberry, both of Suffolk, Johnella Porter (Frank), of Fort Washington, Md., and Carol Johnson, also of Suffolk; two brothers, Alfred Vines Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, and Robert Allmond, of Atlantic City, N.J. His four grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends will lovingly miss him dearly.
A homegoing celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Healing Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Allmond Sr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at his residence.
