Nansemond Parkway reopened after accident; driver charged

Nansemond Parkway has reopened after being closed for about six hours because of a tractor-trailer accident.

The accident happened at 5:15 a.m. in the 4300 block of Nansemond Parkway. The truck ran off the right side of the roadway into a ditch and rolled onto its side. The driver was not injured in the accident.

The driver, Charles Benton Jr., age 56, of Ramseur, N.C., has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, failure to obey a highway sign, reckless driving and a logbook violation.

The accident remains under investigation.
