The First Baptist Christian School Crusaders (0-9) were unable to win their first game of the season Tuesday evening, falling prey to the Summit Christian Academy Eagles. Despite a valiant effort, the Crusaders were routed 77-39.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 30-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Their stellar play on defense led to easy baskets for them on offense. John David Anderson paced SCA with a game high 28 points.

Nathan Vandoren was one of the lone bright spots for the Crusaders, scoring a career-high 26 points.

First Baptist trailed 72-28 after three quarters, but only allowed one field goal in the fourth to close the game out strong.

Despite the rough season, First Baptist head coach John Carr remains optimistic.

“We haven’t won a game in points this season, but because we play so hard we’ve won in heart,” he said. “We coach that if you give 110 percent, then you’ve already won.”
