A Sara Lee worker lost part of one of her fingers in an industrial accident on Saturday.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. when Monica Ricks Bivins, 38, was cleaning machinery and severed her right middle finger just below the fingernail, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George.

She was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
