Rubie Edna Alston Jacobs, 81, of 2206 Georgia Ave., Suffolk, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at her residence. She was a native of Warrenton, N.C., and the daughter of the late George W. Alston and Martha Young Alston. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bessie Person; sons, Willard M. Jacobs and Jerry W. Jacobs.

She attended John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton, N.C. She was employed with SEVAMP (senior citizen organization) in food service until her health declined. She was baptized at an early age at St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton, N.C. She was a member of East End Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory: five daughters, Barbara Rountree (John), of Corapeake, N.C., Joyce Boone, of Suffolk, Ruby Butler (William), of Hampton, Va., Maxine Battle (Jerome) and Gloria Sharpe (Eric), both of Suffolk; four sons, Colandus Jacobs, of Hampton, Va., David Jacobs, Thomas Jacobs, both of Suffolk, Larry Jacobs (Constance), of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Lenomia Alston (Hardy), of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Mary Alston (Roy) and Gearldine Kearney, of Warrenton, N.C.; one brother, Rufus Alston (Brenda), of New Bern, N.C.; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; special daughter-in-law, Johnnie Mae Jacobs; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at East End Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Mark A. Croston Sr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
