Ruby Mae Jacobs Butler, 51, of the 1500 block of Briarfield Road, Hampton, Va., passed on Feb. 11, 2012. She was a native of Suffolk, Va., and the daughter of the late Willard and Rubie Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Willard Jr. and Jerry Jacobs; and sister, Bessie Mae Person.
She was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. She furthered her education at Norfolk State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1983. In 1984, she earned a certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, William J. Butler; four sisters, Barbara Rountree (John), of Corapeake, N.C., Joyce Boone, Maxine Battle (Jerome) and Gloria Sharpe (Eric), all of Suffolk; four brothers, Colandus Jacobs, of Hampton, Va., David Jacobs and Thomas Jacobs, both of Suffolk, Va., and Larry Jacobs (Constance), of San Antonio, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, family members and friends.
A life celebration service will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at noon at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Va. A viewing for Mrs. Butler will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, from noon to 4 p.m. Interment will be private. C.C. Carter Funeral Home, 3314 Roanoke Ave., Newport News, VA 23607, is handling the arrangements.
