A 43-year-old woman was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of driving drunk with an 8-year-old girl in the vehicle.
Officers responded to Sherwood Place, a private road off Nansemond Parkway, around 3:15 p.m. on a report of domestic disturbance. A man reported that the suspect, Lara Mazur, was intoxicated and drove off in his vehicle, striking a tree as she left, according to a police report. His 8-year-old daughter was in the vehicle, the report stated.
Officers caught up with the woman on nearby Little John Road, also on private property. After an investigation, Mazur was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol (second offense) with a child, child endangerment, reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and driving on a revoked license.
The girl was uninjured during the incident, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.
