Joe Henry Owens, 76, of 2440 Skeetertown Road, Suffolk, died Aug. 31, 2012, in Suffolk. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of Lenno Skeeter Owens and Joe Thomas Owens.

He retired from Planters Peanut Company as a machine operator after 27 years. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined Mt. Ararat Christian Church. He was a member of Local 2426 U.A.W.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Alma Barber (Ronnie), of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, Michael Everette, of Livingston, N.C.; three sisters, Kathleen O. Simmons, of Portsmouth, Lennora O. Skeeter, of Suffolk, Maurice Griffith (Clyde), of Portsmouth; foster sister, Gloria Perry, of Suffolk; one brother, Wesley B. Owens, of Suffolk; foster brother, Earl Eley (Jannine), of Chesapeake; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousin and a host of friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
