Alverta B. Lowther, 79, of Suffolk, Va., departed this life on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va. She was born on March 29, 1933, in Suffolk, Va., to the late James and Annie Boone.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was on the Missionary Board.

Alverta leaves to cherish precious memories: her husband, Rolenzie Lowther, of the home; four sons, Milton, James, Frank and Wayne Lowther, all of Suffolk, Va.; two daughters, Gail Card and Pat Lowther, of Suffolk, Va.; four sisters, Odessa Harris, Shirley Boone, Oris Harris and Connie Boone, all of Suffolk, Va.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Stephen Johnson. Burial will follow in Howell-Collins Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home Inc., in Gates is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.huntersfuneralhome.com.
