A Suffolk police officer investigates a fatal crash on the train tracks along Portsmouth Boulevard. A diesel engine hauling four railcars filled with rock crashed into a tractor-trailer crossing the tracks, killing the truck driver.

Police are investigating an accident between a tractor-trailer and a CSX train that left the truck driver dead Thursday afternoon.

The crash took place at the tracks leading into O’Malley’s Used Auto Parts, located at 1325 Portsmouth Blvd., at about 2:32 p.m., according to a press release from city spokeswoman Diana Klink, who stated that the CSX diesel engine was pulling four railcars loaded with rock at the time of the crash.

Police briefly closed the eastbound lanes of Route 58 to give emergency vehicles access to the accident scene, which was located along the tracks behind the tree line, she state. A CSX crane responded to the scene to remove debris from the railroad tracks.
