A sixth-grader at John Yeates Middle School has been recommended for expulsion after allegedly bringing a fake knife to school.

The boy was found in possession of the item on Wednesday while traveling on the bus to school, and the principal recovered it upon arrival, Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said.

No students were threatened, she added. The item was a block of wood carved in the shape of a knife and had no metal blade, she said.

“He was suspended and recommended for expulsion based on our weapons policy,” she wrote in an email.
