Matthew Wesly Jones Jr., affectionately known as “Yogi,” entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 26. He was born on May 3, 1942, in Suffolk, Va., to the late Matthew Jones and Dorothy Gainey.

Yogi attended East Suffolk High School and retired from Planters Peanut Company after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of SRB Club.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Bremory and Michael Britt.
Yogi leaves behind to celebrate his memory, wife, Madie Shambley Jones; son, Xavier A. Jones; daughters, Sherelle E. Jones-Baker (Troy) and Shannon Walker; stepchildren, Milton Shambley, Jeffrey Shambley and Tracey Shambley; brother, Reggie Britt, (Cynthia); sister, Reginia Britt; aunts, Joyce Bellemy and Katherine Jones; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Marie Walker.
Mr. Jones will be on view at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. The family will receive guests at 165 Greenfield Crescent at all other times. A celebration of life service will take place at the funeral home on Friday at 3 p.m., and he will be laid to rest in the T.E. Cooke-Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery.
