A 31-year-old Suffolk man is dead following an early-morning shooting at a party in the 400 block of Linden Ave. on Tuesday.

Carlton Holland Jr. was pronounced dead upon arrival at Norfolk General Hospital at about 3:55 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

According to Suffolk spokesperson Diana Klink, police had been called to the scene of “a social gathering which was congregating in the area” at about 3:07 a.m. When they arrived, they learned the victim had been put in a personal van and was headed for the hospital. A few minutes later, according to Klink, police found the victim being turned over to Suffolk emergency medical personnel in the 300 block of Wellons Street.
