Fire displaces residents

The occupants of a Lake Kennedy home will be staying with family members after a fire at their house caused smoke damage on Sunday morning.

The fire was confined to the kitchen of the home in the 1100 block of Lake Kennedy Drive, but most of the home had moderate smoke damage, according to a city press release. One adult female and three teenagers escaped the home unharmed after the smoke detector alerted them to the problem.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue received the call at 11:39 a.m., according to the press release. Engines 2 and 3, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Medic 1 all responded.

The cause of the fire still is under investigation.
