Joseph A. Epps, 58, of 417 Van Buren Ave., Suffolk, Va., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Portsmouth, Va., and the son of Carrie M. Scott.

He attended Suffolk High School and was currently employed at Newport News Shipyard. He was a member of New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries.

Besides his mother, Carrie Scott, he leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Shannon Epps and Kesha Epps, of Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Greta Jackson (Donald), of Odenton, Md., and Deborah Parker, of Suffolk; one brother, Anthony Alexander, of Newport News, Va.; aunts, Hazel Turner and Helen Hawkins, both of Portsmouth; many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministry Inc., officiated by Elder Ron Vinson; Overseer Viola Parker, pastor. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Carrie Scott, 417 Van Buren Ave. in Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements.
