Windsor high schooler dies after shooting
Published 8:31pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013SMITHFIELD—The shooting death of a 17-year-old from Smithfield, who attended the alternative school in Windsor, is being investigated as a possible accident, the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deandre James Thomas died at 10 p.m. Monday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
A handgun was found at the scene of the shooting — a home on Old Stage Highway in Smithfield. There was no sign of forced entry or struggle, the sheriff’s office reported.
