Osten Morris, a Longwood University sophomore from Suffolk, was part of the Longwood team that placed second in the Big South Conference’s annual trivia competition.

In the Big South Conference Quiz Bowl Tournament, held Jan. 26 at Gardner-Webb University, the six-member Longwood team won four matches and lost two in the two-round competition.

This was the first time that Longwood, which joined the Big South in July 2012, competed in the tournament, which featured squads from seven colleges.

Morris, a history major, is a graduate of King’s Fork High School and is the son of Shayne and Stephanie Morris. He is a member of the History Club and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

“The experience was really enjoyable, and we all brought something to the table,” said Morris. “The team is always looking to get even better and do our utmost to bring more recognition to Longwood.”

The Quiz Bowl is part of the mission of the Big South Conference’s Academic Consortium to “develop institutional relationships outside of athletics and to explore ways to share programs and resources to the benefit of students and member institutions.”
