Adoption events set for March

Published 8:50 pm Saturday, March 9, 2013

March in and adopt a best friend at one of the two scheduled March adopt-a-thons sponsored by Suffolk Humane and Suffolk Animal Care.

The first, on March 17, will be at the PetSmart Charities Adoption Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Suffolk PetSmart store, 6243 College Drive. Next, on March 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., adoptable animals will be available at the Chesapeake Square PetSmart store, 4300 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake.

“March means spring is just around the corner, a great time to adopt a pet,” said Lee Murphy, adoptions and foster coordinator for Suffolk Humane. “We hope everyone will come out and meet them, and maybe take a new best friend home.”

“With warmer weather, people will be getting out more, and it is a wonderful time to take a new dog for a walk, or enjoy the sunshine with a loving kitty,” added Debie Jefts, shelter manager for Suffolk Animal Care Center. “We hope that people will come out to meet them, give them some love and attention, and maybe find the perfect companion to enjoy the spring sunshine with.”

The Suffolk Humane Society is dedicated to promoting the welfare of companion animals in the community through sponsoring spay/neuter programs, placing homeless animals in loving permanent homes, and providing quality humane education with an emphasis on responsible pet ownership.
