IW deputy killed in motorcycle crash

An off-duty Isle of Wight deputy was killed on Sunday when he was thrown from the motorcycle he was riding as it ran off the road.

Sgt. Jeffrey Storm 52, of Windsor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The single-vehicle crash took place at approximately 4:17 p.m. Sunday on Route 258.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s office said the department “is in deep mourning at the loss of a devoted friend and fine public servant.”

According to the Virginia State Police, Storm was riding a 1999 Yamaha VMX12, traveling northbound on Route 258, when he lost control.

Storm joined the IOW Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 1995 and was promoted to sergeant in 2000. He had been serving as an administrative sergeant and crime prevention specialist in the department.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the accident. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the highway was closed in both directions near Hunt Club Road for about five hours and re-opened again at approximately 9 p.m.
