Ruth Anna Perry

Dr. Ruth Anna Perry, daughter of the late Rev. Walter and Agnes B. Perry, died at her home in Norfolk.

She was born in North Carolina and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Suffolk. She received both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Hampton University and later received her doctoral degree from Auburn University.

She retired from Norfolk State University as a professor of English after 38 years of dedicated service.

Ruth was a member of the NAACP, Order of Eastern Star Adeline Ward Chapter No. 197, Household of Ruth, and Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

At an early age, Ruth accepted Christ at Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Daniel Lamb. She later joined Mineral Springs Baptist Church, where she served as the church musician.

Ruth enjoyed traveling to the great cities in this country.

She is survived by a niece, Ms. Pamela D. Perry; a nephew, Mr. W. Christopher Perry; great nieces and nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

A wake service will take place on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mineral Spring Baptist Church. A funeral service will take place on Friday at 1 p.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
