Carter will be dearly missed

To the editor:

I was very saddened to hear from one of the employees of the Suffolk City Public
Schools that Janice C. Carter had passed away.

In my opinion, this was a loss of one of the most dedicated and effective citizens of the old Nansemond County and the old city of Suffolk, which were combined into the current city of Suffolk.

She loved the area, the people, her family and her beloved horses.
I worked with Janice for eight years in the School Board office. She was clerk of the School Board and served as secretary to the superintendent.

She always met employees, parents, salespersons or any visitor to the office in a very courteous and professional manner, regardless if they were happy or not. She knew school business, School Board policy and school law and in my opinion could have served as the superintendent of schools.

I cannot find enough words to praise her dedication and her work.
She was a very loyal person to her county and city, as well as to her husband and her children and grandchildren. Also, she knew horses, and they were one of the loves of her life.
Finally, I would have to say she was one of the most effective and knowledgeable persons I worked with in 57 years in public education.

We will miss her.
