Hugh B. Lawrence

Hugh B. Lawrence, 82, formerly of 226 Pine St., Suffolk, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Suffolk. He was a native of Petersburg and the son of the late James Tommy Lawrence and Nannie B. Lawrence Weaver.

He attended Isle of Wight Training School. He was the president of United Taxi Service Inc., and he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Chapel Grove UCC in Windsor. He was a member of the W.F. Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 96 Prince Hall affiliated.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sarah J. Lawrence; two daughters, Paquita Hunter (Benford), of Suffolk, and Shelia Griffin (Dwight), of Portsmouth; three sons, Danny Lawrence, of Lawrenceville, Gregory Holland, of Hampton, and Elton Mabery (Denise), of Hopewell; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nephew, Hershey Lawrence; four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; and a host of other nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Ms. Iva Deloatch and Mrs. Marion Briggs of Kindred Health Care for their support during our time of grief.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Chapel Grove UCC, 7366 West Blackwater Road, Windsor, officiated by the Rev. H. Carlyle Church Jr. Entombment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at 202 Maple St., Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Suffolk Cancer Society or The Chapel Grove Church Benevolence Fund. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
