Following are this week’s Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week nominees:

  • Cal Bailey, junior for King’s Fork High School volleyball: His leadership helped the Bulldogs secure the regular season conference crown last week. In a straight-sets Monday road win over Phoebus High School, he led the team with 11 assists to go with two aces. Tuesday at home, he had 24 assists and 2.5 blocks in a 4-set win against Lakeland High School. Despite a four-set Thursday road loss to Nansemond River High School, he had 10 assists.
  • Tatyana Thomas, senior for Nansemond River High School volleyball: She continued her role as the key offensive weapon for the Lady Warriors, resulting in two more wins this week. She had 12 kills in a 25-13, 25-10, 25-13 home win over Denbigh High School on Tuesday. For Thursday’s senior night match against visiting King’s Fork High School, she had 10 kills, eight blocks and three aces in a 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15 victory.
  • Kristen Vick, senior for Lakeland High School field hockey: She came through when her team needed her most on Monday against two-time defending Group AAA state champion First Colonial High School. In the midst of a pressure-packed sudden death overtime, with her coach shouting for her to make a run, she scored unassisted to end the Lady Patriots’ 50-plus game win streak dating back to 2011.
