Portsmouth bus drivers arrested after fight

Two Portsmouth Public Schools bus drivers were arrested Tuesday after allegedly getting into a physical altercation as they prepared for their afternoon runs.

Shannon Carter-Brooks, 34, of Carrollton, is charged with assault and battery and possession of a stun gun on school property.

Vonda Braswell, 36, of Craneybrook Lane in Portsmouth, was charged with assault and battery.

Police responded to the school system’s bus depot in the 4300 block of Cedar Lane, according to a press release from the city of Portsmouth.

During their investigation, they determined the two women were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical, and the women were separated, according to the press release. Following the separation, Carter-Brooks allegedly went to her personal vehicle and retrieved a stun gun, which she hit Braswell with several times before being restrained by others, according to the press release.

Officers saw minor scratches on both women and located the stun gun, according to the release.

No children were present in the area during the incident.
