Thanks for honoring American ideals

To the editor:

More than 200 years have passed since our Founding Fathers had the audacity to stand up against King George’s tyrannical rule. They were a bunch of scrappy colonists who had a vision for a free country — a country where they could choose their elected officials. I am indebted to our Founding Fathers.

I am inspired by Washington’s perseverance during the Revolutionary War — crossing the Delaware to take on the Hessians at Trenton; marching into what his military advisors thought was sure defeat.

Washington’s youthful army was no match for the contracted, experienced soldiers who had the full weight and money of the Crown of England upon them. His decision to push on and be victorious against such insurmountable odds demonstrated the grit this nation was built upon.

The right for me to be involved in the political process this year has been afforded to me by men and women of such magnificent valor, who have displayed the same grit Washington had. They are true blue American heroes. For anyone who has ever stood up, fought for or supported the democratic principles our nation was founded upon, thank you!

I would also like to note my great appreciation to all who came out to express their concerns for our city by casting their ballot in the General Election last Tuesday. Regardless of which way you cast your ballot, you have demonstrated your sense of civic responsibility and your concern for your city.

Most important, you honored those who made it possible for you to have such a wonderful freedom as the right to choose your elected officials.
