A North Carolina man died in a single-vehicle accident Monday on U.S. Route 58.

Charles Ray Sawyer Jr., 54, of Elizabeth City, died in the crash, which took place eastbound near the weigh station about 8:33 a.m.

The vehicle reportedly struck a tree off the right side of the road.

The right lane was closed until nearly 1 p.m. as police investigated the crash.
