Schools in Suffolk already have begun to announce early closings because of the imminent winter storm. Watch this space for a running list of school closures and other cancellations.

Suffolk Public Schools

Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Friday.

City of Suffolk

City offices will open on a two-hour delay Friday morning. Wednesday’s trash route will be picked up Friday, with Thursday’s following on Saturday and Friday’s on Monday.

Suffolk Public Schools

Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Thursday.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

NSA will be closed Thursday.

City of Suffolk

City offices, including the courthouse, are closed Wednesday.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

NSA will be closed on Wednesday. Services including before- and after-school care and extended care, as well as games, clubs and after-school activities, also are canceled. The Art Show and Sale will be closed, and the Grandparents’ Reception has been canceled.

Suffolk Christian Academy

Suffolk Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday.

Suffolk Public Schools

Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, according to a post on the system’s website. The next day school is open will be an early dismissal day, and the final day of exams will be given.

Trash pickup

Due to the closure of the SPSA landfill on Wednesday, Suffolk Public Works will not pick up trash. In the event the landfill is closed only on Wednesday, the trash schedule will shift by one day. Should the landfill close again on Thursday the schedule will shift by two days, with Friday’s trash being collected on Monday.

City of Suffolk

City offices will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, including all Suffolk Public Libraries, the East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Suffolk Visitor Center. Suffolk Transit operations will cease at 4:30 p.m.

Tidewater Community College

All campuses of Tidewater Community College will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. They will remain closed on Wednesday.

Suffolk Public Library

Suffolk Public Libraries have cancelled all Toddler Time, Preschool Time and Story Time events at the Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk and Chuckatuck libraries for Wednesday morning.

Suffolk Public Schools

Since Tuesday was already an early dismissal day because of exam and SOL testing schedules, the city’s public schools already were on a schedule to release students early on Tuesday. Meanwhile, all afternoon and evening activities have been canceled.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation

Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink said the city’s parks and recreation facilities, including its after-school program, would close on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will release students at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, and all after-school activities, including clubs, practices, games, Extended Care and Beyond the Bell have been canceled, according to an announcement on the school’s website. Also, the art show and sale will close at 11:45.
