Samuel R. Slaughter

Samuel R. “Kim” Slaughter, 61, of 5609 Nathaniel St., Suffolk, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Alice A. Manley and the late Willie Ray Slaughter and Warrenton H. Manley.

He was a graduate of the class of 1973 at John F. Kennedy High School. He received recognition for 23 years of dedicated service at Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia’s  “The Center for Aging.” He was a former member of St. Timothy Baptist Church.

Besides his mother, Alice Manley, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rosa Scott-Slaughter; daughter, Shamika Nikki Almond (goddaughter); two sons, Samuel De’l Slaughter, of Suffolk, and Keith Artis, of West Virginia; five sisters, Lillian Manley-Wilson, of Suffolk, Inell E. Ricks, of Smithfield, Jewel L. Manley-Hoffler (Bryan), of Suffolk, Naomi Toleta Davis (Michael), of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Machelle Yvette Copeland (George), of Suffolk; brothers, Michael Slaughter, of Suffolk, Warren D. Manley (Hope), of Norfolk, and Donnell E. Manley (Margaret), of Chesapeake; uncle, Charles Slaughter (Lois); special friends, Bert Johnson, Roy Parker and Theo Bishop; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Macedonia A.M.E Church, 127 Pine St., Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Darrel Wade. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A wake will be held Friday, April 11, 2014, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
