Bird’s nest causes fire

A bird’s nest in a dryer vent caused a fire that displaced a family of four from a Holland home on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 12:27 p.m., in the 6700 block of South Quay Road. Units arriving eight minutes later found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home. The blaze was confined to the upstairs laundry area, according to a city press release.

Two adults and two children were displaced and will be staying with family members. There were no injuries, according to the release.

A number of units — including Engines 4, 7, 8 and 27, Tanker 7, Batalion 1, Rescue 1, EMS 1, Medic 7A, Ladder 6 and the fire marshal responded, along with volunteers from the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department.
