VIDEO: Police begin assault on barricaded suspect

Published 1:28am Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Video clip shot by Donna Perry shows a tactical team firing “chemical irritants” into the home of Gary Abernathy at the end of a barricade situation that had resulted earlier June 10 in the secretive evacuation of nearby Elephant’s Fork Elementary School. The armored personnel carrier was used for protection and to knock out cameras, windows and a door at the house before the final assault. Police had sent a robot into the house after hearing a gunshot, and a camera on the robot had shown Abernathy to be apparently dead. The teargas and chemicals were used as a precaution, police said.

ok I must have missed something here. what led up to the man deciding to become barricaded in the first place. Who and what was the rank of the most Senior Supervisor on location?

OK Igot caught up. MS. Perry had every right to video the event as it took place. The police have no right to seize her cell phone. its called unreasonable search and seizure, check the Constitution. its still in there as far as I know or until Obama and holder destroy that portion also. you haven’t taken a plane trip have ya? or do you think having a TSA agent is away to engage in a sexual experience with a person of the same sex in most cases or to have ur kids molested?

I’m NOT saying she had no right to take video what I am saying is why not use some common sense if its there to be had and NOT blast it all over social media as its happening further putting the police at risk dealing with a man who is clearly attempting to kill himself or be killed via a cop. They were clearly (as stated) knocking out cameras that were located all around his house so that he could not sit in his home and watch every move they were making. In MY opinion MS. Perry’s actions on social media only increased the harm that could have been done to these police officers. Not just ours but the State Police as well.

Again, we as a society have become so social media driven rather than thinking before we jump.

To answer your question, yes, I have taken several trips since 911 and NEVER forget about 911 which makes me appreciate TSA Agents and their quest to assure that I’m NOT on a flight with a bomb or anything else that will end my life. Freedom doesn’t come without a price and if being searched protects my freedom to travel and enjoy my life then so be it. I will live another day thanks to the search.

While the video clip is cool to see I have to wonder what is going through the mind of someone shooting video like this during an event such as this? I actually saw this video as well as pics on Facebook while this was going on and wondered when I saw them if the person posting them ever stopped to think of the danger they were placing the police in at the time? They used this vehicle to knock out CAMERAS this man had around his home so that he could NOT see what was happening, the placement of the police, and for their safety. Then you have someone out there whom the police are protecting shooting video because they feel its a cool thing when they were only placing the officers in more danger.

Our society has become so ignorant with technology. I have recently seen videos where people were just in car accidents and rather than people help those hurt in the cars they whip out thier cell phones and start taking video. Its crazy and makes no sense to me. I wish the police would have been in a position to see this woman taking video of them and snatch her phone out of her hand. People really just simply need to THINK before they react.
