The Senior Girl Scouts of Troop 946 visited the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Center in Adelboden, Switzerland, this summer for Swiss Challenge 3.

Participants included Kortnie Downie, Julia Horigan, Sarah Rhodes and Ariel Salerno. Also on the trip were Boy Scout Benji Salerno of Troop 30, David and Angie Salerno and Aimee Downie.

At the World Center named “Our Chalet,” the girls met other Scouts from two troops in New Jersey, two troops in Canada, and girls from California and Denmark.

During their stay, they enjoyed a Swiss barbecue, which featured bratwurst, and enjoyed Swiss nighttime with chocolate fondue and the sounds of an alpenhorn.

They enjoyed ziplining, a high ropes course, mountain climbing, and rappelling at the Reharti Adventure Park. The group visited Schuh Chocolatier in Interlaken and the Trummelbach Falls, and hiked three hours up to Elsigenalp and enjoyed the chilly glacial waters.

On a free day, the girls from Troop 946 visited the town of Adelboden, which hosts the World Cup of Skiing in the wintertime. A funicular ride to the top of Niesen, the Swiss Pyramid, allowed the girls to experience snow in July.

Also while at “Our Chalet,” the girls gave two hours of service each to chores around the property.

For most of the girls, this was their first international trip.
