As part of Pet Appreciation Week, an annual event to celebrate family pets, Tractor Supply Co. is awarding $25,000 in grants, including a $10,000 grand prize, to qualifying animal charities through its “Rescue Your Rescue” social media contest.

To get started, Tractor Supply is asking fans and customers from Suffolk to visit Facebook.com/TractorSupplyCo and nominate their favorite shelter by submitting a brief story and photo. Nominations are open through Sept. 1.

Tractor Supply will narrow the nominations down to the 10 best, and the public will vote from Sept. 5 to 14 at Facebook to choose the winners. Winners will be announced during Pet Appreciation Week, happening at stores Sept. 17–21.

“Pet Appreciation Week gives us the opportunity to show how much we love our pets, and also a chance to recognize those who are finding great homes for animals,” said Seth Estep, vice president and divisional merchandising manager for Tractor Supply.

“We invite our fans and customers in every Tractor Supply community to take a moment to recognize the hard work being done to care for animals by nominating and then voting for their favorite shelter.”

The grand prize is a $10,000 grant, but the top 10 will all receive prizes ranging from $5,000 for second place down to $200 for 10th place.

As part of the main event of Pet Appreciation Week on Sept. 20, every Tractor Supply store will feature pet adoptions through a partnership with Petfinder, demonstrations on pet nutrition, discounts on pet food and supplies, free giveaways and valuable in-store prize drawings.

All Pet Appreciation Week events are open to the public — and pets — and will take place at Tractor Supply stores throughout the area.

On Sept. 20, attendees will receive free gifts while supplies last and can enter a drawing to win a $200 gift card, a $100 rebate on pet services or a “Doggie Bag” prize pack valued at $35.

Suffolk’s Tractor Supply store is located at 3000 Pruden Blvd. Other Western Tidewater locations include 13500 Benns Church Blvd. in Smithfield and 1465 Armory Drive in Franklin.
