Firefighters extricated a 24-year-old woman from her car by cutting off the roof after she crashed Wednesday morning in the 2600 block of Holland Road.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue workers were busy early Wednesday morning taking care of two separate accidents.

The first happened at 12:37 a.m. in the 2600 block of Holland Road, near King’s Mobile Home Park. The Nissan Sentra, being driven by a 24-year-old female, was traveling eastbound but crossed over into the westbound lanes, where it ran off the road, overturned and came to rest in a ditch against a tree, according to a city press release.

The woman was entrapped and suffered serious injuries. Firefighters extricated her from the vehicle by removing the roof and transported her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

At least one lane of the road was closed for several hours.

Later, at 6:47 a.m., a jack-knifed tractor-trailer in the 4700 block of Whaleyville Boulevard at Greenway Road blocked the road in both directions for a short time. There were no injuries in that accident.

The cause of both accidents is under investigation.
