To the editor:

September 19 is the day our nation remembers those listed as prisoners of war or missing in action. The U.S. government lists 83,189 Americans under these classifications.

A wreath was laid at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Friday to remember America’s POWs and MIAs by Joe Bagley, VFW Post 2582 of Suffolk.

We are proud of the service that each of these Americans gave, and the VFW strongly supports their return.

We ask our fellow Americans to take time to remember that freedom is not free and that the sacrifice of those who did not return home was the price paid for our freedom.
