George Riefler finished with the best two-day total out of the trio of Suffolk golfers competing in the ninth Senior Open of Virginia as it concluded on Friday at The Country Club of Virginia’s Tuckahoe Creek Course in Richmond.

Riefler improved on his five-over-par 77 in the first round with an even-par 72 on Friday, giving him a 149 aggregate that was good for 22nd out of a field of 82 golfers.

Suffolk’s Mark Lambert also improved on his first-round score. He shot a four-over 76 on Thursday, then a one-over 73 on Friday to place 26th.

Mike Byrum of Suffolk moved into the 70s after shooting an 82 in round one, finishing with a 78.

Roger Newsom of Virginia Beach won the event, shooting a four-under 68 in both rounds.
