Christian Bookstore carries on

To the editor:

Last month, Linda Saunders, founder of The Christian Bookstore in Suffolk, passed away after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

The Suffolk News-Herald graciously wrote a couple of excellent articles on how Suffolk was blessed to have this ministry and business. I am personally thankful for the support Suffolk and the surrounding areas gave my wife and me for 31 years.

It has come to my attention that it seems some people have mistakenly gotten the impression that Linda’s death has somehow affected the existence of the store. Because of Linda’s failing health, years ago, we sold the store to Andrew Mattox, who is still very much in business.

I hope Suffolk will continue to support this hometown ministry and business — as I plan to do — and keep Linda’s legacy alive.

As a side note, the bookstore is more than 40 years old and now in its sixth location. I think Andrew hopes the store will last for another 40 years.
