Player of the week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

 

William Barnes, junior for Lakeland High School football: He continued to be a defensive star on Friday night and one of the reasons coach Bryan Potts has such confidence in the Cavaliers’ pass defense. He grabbed three interceptions in a 21-7 road win against Hickory High School, his second three-pick performance of the year, the first coming against visiting Oscar Smith High School.

Lauren Park, sophomore for King’s Fork High School field hockey: She played a significant role in the Lady Bulldogs’ 2-0 week. She recorded a hat trick in a 6-0 conference win against visiting Heritage High School on Tuesday, then contributed an assist and an intense performance to Thursday’s 4-0 home win against Northampton High School.

4David Gough, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He produced an impressive well-rounded offensive performance in the Saints’ 56-34 homecoming win on Friday against Greenbrier Christian Academy. He carried the ball 25 times for 140 yards, four touchdowns and three two-point conversions, he had two catches for 21 yards, and he threw for a two-point conversion, as well.

 

Jaclyn Mounie, junior for Nansemond River High School field hockey: She had a pivotal impact offensively to help the Lady Warriors to a 2-0 week. She came into Monday’s game against visiting Kecoughtan High School and scored the tying and winning goals in the last 10 minutes. She also contributed a goal to Tuesday’s 6-0 home win against Phoebus High School.
