NR and KF get field hockey wins, LHS waits

The field hockey season is winding down, and Suffolk’s public schools continued cementing their dominance in the Ironclad Conference on Tuesday in a trio of road games.

Nansemond River High School trounced Heritage High School 10-1 in a mercy rule-shortened game.

Senior Desiree Patterson got NR on the board a mere 43 seconds in. She was followed later in the first half by junior Claire Janek, who scored twice, junior Jaclyn Mounie, who scored twice, and senior Alyssa Abele, senior Juliana Stewart, sophomore Karah Foster and freshman Ashlyn Rogers, who each scored once.

Rogers scored her second goal of the game in the second half.

This concluded Nansemond River’s regular season. The Lady Warriors (11-5, 5-0) claim the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

King’s Fork High School topped Denbigh High School 4-1.

Lady Bulldogs senior Hannah Washburn scored twice, sophomore Lauren Parks contributed a goal and an assist and senior Rachel Gist scored a goal, as well.

Senior Randi Fiel and Lexus Mills turned in outstanding games.

King’s Fork (11-4, 4-1) visits Smithfield High School tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Lakeland High School arrived late to its game at Phoebus High School and only played 25 minutes. The Lady Cavaliers currently hold a 3-0 lead and will complete the game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
