Those looking to enjoy a sampling of basketball talent from different parts of the state will have an opportunity to do so at King’s Fork High School this Saturday.

King’s Fork will host the Bulldog Tip-Off Showcase, which will feature 12 different teams, including boys’ and girls’ squads.

“On a normal night, (fans) just get to see their team play,” KF activities director Randy Jessee said.

On Saturday, they will get to see the boys’ teams from Bethel High School, Great Bridge High School, Hanover High School, Lake Taylor High School, Salem High School from Virginia Beach and the Bulldogs.

Girls’ teams participating will be from Bethel, Brunswick High School, Hampton High School, Salem from Virginia Beach, Woodrow Wilson High School and the Lady Bulldogs.

“It’s just like a regular basketball game except there’s six of them,” Jessee said.

The first will begin at 12:30 p.m., and the last tip-off will come at 8 p.m.

Jessee noted the purpose of the event is two-fold.

“It’s obviously a fundraiser for our athletics and basketball team, and it’s also a way to gather good talent from the area,” he said.

By gathering a significant group of teams and holding so many games, the showcase can also gather scouts.

“You have more interest as far as (college) coaches,” Jessee said.

Bulldogs coach Josh Worrell said he is looking forward to the event because it gives his team an opportunity “to play somebody different that we don’t normally play” and the opportunity to play another quality opponent early in the season.

King’s Fork takes on Hanover High School to close the event.

The Lady Bulldogs play in the game prior at 6:30 p.m. KF coach Maurice Fofana and his squad are looking forward to the opportunity to get another shot at the team that eliminated it from the regional playoffs last season —Wilson.

The doors will open for the Bulldog Tip-Off Showcase at 11:30 a.m.

To see all six games, the price of admission for adults, ages 12 and up, will be $8. The price for children, ages 11 and under, will be $6.

The concession stand will be open at the event.
