“It’s some of the best in the region,” King’s Fork activities director Randy Jessee said, later noting the event “has a very nice flavor as far as the abilities of the teams.”

Participants include the boys’ squads from Booker T. Washington, Frank W. Cox, Gar-Field, Grafton, Great Bridge, Lakeland, Menchville, Lake Taylor, Oscar Smith and KFHS.

The girls’ squads competing will be from Booker T. Washington, Brunswick, Grafton, Lake Taylor, Tallwood and King’s Fork.

The event will serve as a fundraiser for the King’s Fork athletic department.

Additionally, “it lets us continue to play quality teams without having to do a lot of traveling,” Jessee said, and it also gives spectators another chance to see great talent from around the area in one spot.

Lakeland’s boys’ team will get a chance to try to avenge its loss to Booker T. Washington that ended its 2013-14 season in the regional playoffs.

Oscar Smith went undefeated in the Southeastern District this season and will take on Grafton.

The Bulldogs will get to take on rival Lake Taylor again, while the Lady Bulldogs will again face the Lady Titans, who ended King’s Fork’s postseason in 2013.

Jessee also looks forward to the event bringing people into Suffolk and exposing them to what the city has to offer.

“We feel like it helps the community’s economy also,” he said.

Doors open at King’s Fork at 9:45 a.m. A concession stand will be open all day.

The price for admission to the showcase is $8.
