A 24-year-old woman was sent to the hospital Thursday following a collision with an 18-wheeler on Holland Road.

The wreck happened at 6:41 p.m. in the 1500 block, according to a city press release.

The woman was driving a Pontiac Grand Am, which collided with the 18-wheeler in the westbound lanes.

The woman had to be removed from her vehicle by Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel using heavy-duty equipment. She was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The westbound lanes were briefly shut down, and eastbound traffic was down to one lane. The roadway reopened within the hour.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
