After nearly a week of being holed up after a Monday snowstorm, plenty of folks found reasons to get outside on Saturday.

For hundreds of people, one of those reasons was the Suffolk Art League’s 32nd annual Antiques Show and Sale at King’s Fork Middle School. It continues today with more than 40 dealers on hand showcasing thousands of items, from furniture to jewelry and everything in between.

“I think people just want to get out,” confirmed Cindy Ferguson, who was at the show with friends. “They’re tired of being stuck inside.”

Art League Executive Director Linda Bunch said the weather presented some challenges, but ultimately the show went forward as scheduled and saw a good turnout on Saturday.

“The city and the school system have been most gracious in making sure the facility was ready for us to use,” Bunch said. She also praised show chair Dixie Peachy for working hard to ensure the show went off without a hitch and commended the dealers for digging their trailers out from the snow and ice to come to the show.

Bunch also encouraged people who have been to the show in past years — and might be tempted to think they’ve seen it all — to return this year.

“We do have a number of new dealers this year,” she said. “I’ve heard a number of people say the variety this year was excellent.”

Dealer Ann Taylor, who displayed a variety of items at her booth with husband Matt, said they have been coming to the show for about 10 years.

“I love this show,” she said. “It’s a great show, and the sponsors are terrific to work with.”

Visitor Mary Beth Dale said she comes to the show to support the art league but winds up staying for hours because of the items and the dealers.

“They have wonderful things,” she said. “And I like to chat with the dealers, who are all so friendly.”

The show continues from noon to 5 p.m. today. Admission is $6. Items up for sale include silver, crystal, linens, crockery and porcelains. Crystal and glass jewelry repair, clock repair and frame and photograph restoration services also are on site.

Raffle tickets for a painting by local artist Barbara West are available for sale at the event, $2 each or three for $5. Concessions including Brunswick stew, barbecue, chicken salad and homemade desserts also are on sale.
