Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Keith Stagg, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: He helped propel his team to a 61-48 victory over No. 1-seeded Heritage High School on Saturday night, handing the Bulldogs the Ironclad Conference tournament championship. His contribution to the win included a team-high 20 points to go with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
  •  Brandeé Johnson, junior for Nansemond River High School track and field: She led the Lady Warriors to their first indoor track and field regional championship in school history on Monday by claiming individual regional titles in the girls’ 500-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump, while also taking second in the 55-meter dash. Her times/marks in all four events were personal records.
  •  Kelly Hogan, sophomore for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: She helped launch her team into Saturday’s state championship game with a stellar performance during Friday’s state semifinal in which she recorded 18 points and 20 rebounds. Though the Lady Saints fell decidedly in the state final, she remained a noteworthy contributor with 11 points and seven boards.
