A 29-year-old Suffolk woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Chesapeake on Friday evening.

Jamie Freeman of the 1300 block of Lawson Circle, a passenger in a Ford SUV that was struck in the hit-and-run crash on Portsmouth Boulevard by Chesapeake Square, was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to Chesapeake spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan.

The accident happened at 5:50 p.m., when, according to witnesses, a four-door Mercedes was traveling eastbound and hit the Ford in which Freeman was riding, pushing the Ford into oncoming traffic, O’Sullivan stated in a press release.

A Jeep Cherokee traveling the opposite direction then struck the Ford.

Portsmouth Police located the suspect vehicle and driver on Robin Road at 6 p.m.

Chesapeake Police identified the suspect on Saturday as Audrey Murphy, 72, of Portsmouth. Murphy has been charged with DUI and hit and run, according to O’Sullivan, who stated that other charges are pending.

Murphy is being held at the Chesapeake City Jail without bond.
