Mrs. Laura H. Bryant, 84, died March 5, 2015. She was a native of Gates County, N.C., spent most of her adult years in Suffolk, and resided the last 20 years in Matthews, N.C. She was the widow of Marion W. Bryant and the daughter of the late Leslar W. Howell and Sadie Starling Smith Howell.

She was a long time member of Suffolk Christian Church and one-time president of the Suffolk Business and Professional Women’s Club. While residing in Matthews, she attended Carmel Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C.

Survivors include three children, Brenda M. Matthews (Bill), of Matthews, N.C., Donna F. Shuman (David), of Matthews, N.C., Staley H. Bryant (Pamela), of Douglasville, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Allison S. Bryant, of Los Angeles, Calif. Other survivors include sisters, Idalia H. Lilley, of Williamston, N.C., and Faye H. Eure, of Suffolk.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday, March 9, 2015, at 11 a.m., by the Rev. Michael D. Halley in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive visitors Sunday, March 8, 2015, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Suffolk.
