A garage and five antique vehicles stored inside were destroyed during an early-morning fire Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 700 block of Freeman Mill Road after it was reported at 3 a.m., according to a city press release. They arrived 10 minutes later to find the detached garage fully engulfed, with flames showing through the roof.

The intensity of the flames also caused some minor damage to the exterior of the home, but the two occupants were not displaced. No injuries were reported, the press release stated.

The destroyed vehicles were a 1964 Studebaker, 1965 Studebaker, 1966 Studebaker, 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air and a Chevrolet pickup, according to the city.

The Whaleyville Volunteer Fire Department responded along with several units from Suffolk Fire and Rescue.

The fire marshal’s office could not determine the cause of the fire but said it is consistent with an electrical issue, according to the press release.
